2015 Offsite Events

One of the biggest parts about the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 experience will be all of the offsite events offered all around the Gaslamp District. In fact, there is so much to do that it is worth it to go even if you don’t have a ticket to SDCC! However, all offsite events are not created equal- so I have listed for you some of my favorites you might want to check out. Please note that times, locations, and prices (and requirement) are always subject to change so go to the respective websites for up to date info. (Listed in order of start times/dates)

The Art of Comic-Con [June-Aug]
It’s not technically an offsite event since it spans the summer, but this exhibit will showcase 45 years of original Comic-Con art by more than 60 artists from the CCI archives including work by Sergio Aragonés, Howard Chaykin, Cliff Chiang, Michael Cho, Colleen Coover, Rick Geary, Gilbert Hernandez, Jim Lee, Dave McKean, Frank Miller, Marshall Rogers, John Romita Jr., Bill Sienkiewicz, William Stout, Babs Tarr, and others. Hosted at the San Diego Public Library, this will be a great experience for anyone who is a fan of Comic-Con.

FoCC Preview Night Meetup [Wed, 8a]
The Friends of CC Forum are having their annual pre Comic-Con meet up on the morning of Preview Night. This is a chance for Forum Members to meet, hang out, and enjoy a great breakfast at my favorite restaurant- The Broken Yolk. It’s a great way to start off your week at the Con!

Game of Bloggers [Wed, 9-12a]
My own personal concoction- Welcome to the first Game of Bloggers Meet Up! Many of the finest Internet Houses from across Westeros will gathering to tell tales of victory, loss, and glory- at the Dragon’s Den (next to Petco Park) on Wednesday evening! After Preview Night, I invite you to revel with myself and the Nerd/Geek/blogger/YouTube/Social Media/Photography/Comic-Con community- and the best part? Our goal is to meet and interview as many fellow fans as possible! This will be the best way to kick off the week!

Skeletor’s Lair Pop-Up Shop [Wed 9p-12a, Thu-Sun 11a-9p]
He-Man’s greatest nemesis Skeletor will have an Super7 offsite pop up shop. By visiting the Super7 Booth #4945 or the Mattel Booth #3029 to pick up a Skeletoken. You will then take this coin to Skeletor’s Lair and show it to us to gain entry into the Pop-Up Shop.

Petco Interactive Zone [Wed 5-9p, Thu-Sun 9-9p, Sun 9-7p]
Returning for it’s third year, the Interactive Zone is located in the parking lot next to Petco Park- just over the skybridge from the Hilton Bayfront. Last year there was special booths, video game demos, movie promotions, interactive experiences, and food trucks! It was a great way to get a quick meal during the show.

Gam3rCon [Wed-Sun, 12-12]
Gam3rCon returns to San Diego for it’s third year. This mini-con celebrates all aspects of gaming to include console, tabletop, retro, and more. Beyond the gaming, there will also be panels, a museum, and parties. If you love gaming of any sort, this would be an added bonus to your trip.

CONAN at Comic-Con [Wed-Sat, 2:30p]
The Conan Show, on TBS, will be filming all week at Comic-Con! Location, tickets, or other details have yet to be announced  except that the shows will be taped from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Cat Cafe [Thur 9a – Sun 3:45p]
Come visit The Cat Cafe and enjoy our Comic-Con special! For $20, you’ll get a souvenir from The Cat Cafe, a drink or food item, and a chance to spend 30 minutes with friendly cats from San Diego Humane Society.

Heroes Reborn and Blindspot [Thu-Sun]
NBC Heroes Reborn and Blindspot will have an interactive experience adjacent to the Tin Fish Restaurant across the street from the convention center.

Adult Swim on the Green [Thu-Sun, 9:30-10p]
Join Adult Swim behind the convention center for this brand new experience for fans. Festivities to include Panels, Signings, Carnival Shenanigans, The Meatwad Full Dome Experience,Free Nightly Screenings, and Live Shows. This is a great way to take a break and enjoy some fresh air.

Assassin’s Creed Experience [Thu & Sat 10-6p, Sun 10-5p]
Returning for a second year in a row is the life-size parkour obstacle course based on Assassin’s Creed. Last year, Schick razor company was doing free face and leg shaves- why? Well, why not!

The Nerdist CONival [Thu-Sun 11-5p]
Chris Hardwick leads the charge as the Nerdist takes over Petco Park for CONival. This year will have more than ever with the Borderlands themed Laser Tag, Geek & Sundry, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, and loads of panels with Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Daniel Radcliffe, and much more.

Geek & Sundry [Thu-Sat]
Felicia Day and company return to Comic-Con for a third year under the mammoth brand of the Nerdist. Now in Petco Park- this time with a medieval theme! Game of Throne: Experience the Realm [Thu-Sat 11-4p, Sun 9-12p]
For a third year, HBO is bringing its “Game of Thrones Experience The Realm” to Comic-Con for another year, which means the Iron Throne is back and fans can claim the famous seat and pose for pics. Tons of photo ops and fun interactive experiences.

FX Fearless Arena [Thu-Sat 12-6p, Sun 11-6p]
Attempt to survive several death defying interactive experiences through several FX TV shows like The Strain, Fargo, American Horror Story, and The Bastard Executioner.

Peanuts Belle’s Boutique [Thu-Sun 12-8]
In the midst of Comic-Con, Peanuts is bringing a sophisticated Parisian beagle style offsite shop. The boutique will offer a variety of adorable products featuring Snoopy & Belle, including exclusive tees, sophisticated tote bags, and stylish accessories, including a zippered pouch. A pair of Belle opera glasses will be given free to everyone who visits the shop.

HISHE Villains Pub [Thu-Sat]
The awesome web series HISHE (How It Should Have Ended) is creating a real life version of The Villain Pub, a popular destination in their shorts where villains hang out. The Villains Pub will have various panels to attend and fans will get a chance to meet creators.

Nintendo Video Game Lounge [TBA]
The fan favorite Nintendo Lounge returns to the Marriott. Play all the latest games and demo the upcoming ones! More info to come!

Nerd HQ [Thu-Sun]
Mini-con and fan favorite, Nerd HQ returns to San Diego! Spearheaded by Zachary Levi and the Nerd Machine, the HQ will offer spaces to hang out, video game demos, fan parties, and the Conversation for a Cause panels to raise money for Operation Smile. After a couple of years at Petco Park, it will now be hosted at the Chidlren’s Museum- which is across the street from the north side of the convention center. Fan parties will be Thursday and Saturday night for anyone to join.

Her Universe Fashion Show [Thu 6-9p]
The prolific nerd fashion empire, Her Universe, returns for a 2nd year to present a ‘Geek Coulture’ fashion show and design competition. The two grand prize winners (out of 25) will design a future line for Her Universe. Last years winner is releasing an Avengers theme line at Hot Topics. Partner, Nerdist Industries, this ended up being one of my favorite events of the week!

The Aquabats [Thu 7p]
All ages are welcome to this annual family friendly during Comic-Con. The Aquabats are a quirky alternative rock band whose infectious blend of rock and humor has won over crowds all over the globe.

This annual geekfest is a favorite among Comic-Con fans. Focused on comedy monologues, there is much zanyness to appreciate from fans 18 and up. The usual suspects include Adam Savage, Wil Wheaton, Paul and Storm.

mtvU Fandom Awards [Thu 7p]
mtvU returns for a 2nd annual event during Comic-Con. Honoring fan favorite movies and television shows, the award show brought on big-time feels for all of the diehard fans whose countless votes made sure each and every one of their fave fandoms took home a prize. I peeked in during last year’s event and it was what you would expect from an outdoor concert type event- loud music, dancing, blinding lights, drinking, etc. Not my thing but maybe it is yours. The event will be on live Thursday and will air on Sunday.

Super Geeked Up [Fri 7p-10p]
The crew from Super Geeked Up we’ll be doing our live show, talking sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes, and comics and playing super-fun geek-themed games with audience participation! The Walking Dead Escape [Fri & Sat 6p-10p]

Even though the Blood Drive get’s overshadowed by all the big events, Comic-Con collects an amazing amount of one of our most precious resources for those in need.
