The new Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer dropped yesterday. *Cue awkward squealing noises as I fangirl for a moment.* When we got the teaser for this movie at SDCC, I sat alone in Hall H, smiling from ear to ear. They had only begun filming and already it looked fantastic. This is the Spider-Man movie we have all been waiting for. Young Peter Parker and his snarky quips…who doesn’t love that already?! *Bless you, Marvel* Now that we’ve been gifted the second trailer, we get a real taste of the action. Have they shown us too much? Too early to tell, but I for one am PUMPED! Ok. What do we really know thus far about this movie, hmm?
It looks like Spidey has a sweet, new suit that has been pimped out by Tony Stark. Wait, what?! Did that spider emblem just pop off? It appears to be a drone of some sort, but the capabilities remain a mystery (although we ARE told that it cannot summon an army of spiders). The suit is even able to fit itself perfectly to the wearer’s body, even if said wearer is NOT Peter. How cool is that?! Could we get that tech now, please? All my graphic tees would fit perfectly every time. Fitting rooms? Puh-leez.
Still, with great power comes great responsibility, and Tony doesn’t seem to think that Peter is quite ready for the responsibility of the suit, and may just need to need to learn to crawl before he can walk. #SpiderPuns
While Tony wants Peter to focus on being the “friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man”, there are a group of men who begin to realize that they can make a decent living thieving locally while the Avengers remain focused on the big-time villains.
Michael Keaton looks phenomenal as The Vulture. First Batman, then Birdman…The Vulture seems an appropriate follow up. His flight suit looks incredible and super high tech. Speaking of tech, did you check out the weapons of the supporting villains? That’s some pretty sweet stuff, but it leaves me very curious as to where they got their hands on it.
It remains a mystery as to whether Logan Marshall-Green or Bokeem Woodbine will be playing the role of Herman Schultz. It seems it will, in fact, be a…Shocker. *cough cough…Bueller?*
I for one am extremely excited for this film. I’m not entirely sure why I like Spider-Man so much, but I think it has something to do with the fact that Peter isn’t like other superheroes. He isn’t perfectly coordinated like Black Widow or Captain America. He is awkward and uncomfortable in his own skin. This is exactly why he has that moment with Tony and says that he’s nothing without the suit. Who among us can’t identify with feeling that way, ESPECIALLY in high school? He is the nerd that we all are or have been, he just has some added abilities. I’m anxious to see that play out onscreen.
