Kong is KING of weekend & Comic tie-in announced

As predicted “Kong: Skull Island” took the top spot at the box office this weekend with a domestic opening of $61 million. This blew past the estimates of a $45-50 million weekend. This was enough to knock off Fox’s Logan the other monster of the box office to a 2nd place finish, which still put up impressive numbers in its second week out.

The movie itself, I found quite enjoyable not disappointed by any means. It was what I expected from this type of blockbuster movie.  Make sure you stick around for the Post Credit Scene as it will not disappoint!

The news that excited me and the reason for this article was the announcement by Legendary thU7BHSN1AComics of a new series. Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, a 4-part saga that goes deeper into mysteries of Skull Island & the mythic origins of Kong. It will be written by Arvid Nelson and illustrated by Zid, it appears this miniseries will be told in non-linear fashion – or at least feature a time jump at some point. It will be available in both print and digital on 04/05/2017.

The Story:

“It’s both a sequel and a prequel to the film, the series tells the story of a secret team of Monarch operatives returning to Skull Island to discover the truth behind Kong and the island he is born to protect. In doing so, they unlock an ancient history of monster conflict, witness the primal war between Kong and an otherworldly ecosystem of deadly new creatures, and finally reveal how this lonely god became the last of his kind. ”

This isn’t the 1st time Legendary has had a tie-in comic with one of its movies. Godzilla also had a tie-in comic. Godzilla shares the “Monsterverse” that the studio is tying together. SPOILER ALERT! Which you will find out if you stay for the post credit scene.

Legendary Comics has partnered with Loot Crate to bring their fans an exclusive first look at Skull Island: The Birth of Kong. The free preview of Issue #1 is available through Comixology.

Just a couple of images provided online in the free preview. Can’t wait to read more about the world of Monster Island!
