Wondercon is fast approaching and if you are a creator you may be thinking about the best way to network and connect with like-minded people. If so, never fear, for the Comic Creators Connection (CCC) is here!
I first started attending the CCC a few years ago, and I must say, it’s become one of my favorite things to do at both San Diego Comic-Con and Wondercon. Think of it as speed dating for writers and artists. A series of tables are set up and on one side the artists sit with their portfolio’s ready for viewing. On the other side sit the writers with their writing samples ready to hand out. For five minutes, you give your pitches, share your ideas, view each other’s work and exchange contact information. Then a timer goes off and the writers get up and move over to the next artist. Pretty simple, right?
I can’t tell you how great this event is. You meet tons of talented and cool people and I always walk away feeling completely creatively recharged. And hey, while you’re there, you might just meet the one. No, not that one, but the other one. That artist or writer you end up collaborating with.
It’s highly recommended that you preregister for this event because it fills up fast. If you are a writer you might notice the website says they are currently full on writers (they always have way more writers than artists). However, do not dismay. There is a waiting list as some people drop out or no show. I have even walked up thirty minutes prior to the event, got on the alternate list, and still made it in. So please still give it a shot. You will be glad you did and you might just walk away feeling inspired and ready to create your first great comic book!
The dates for the CCC this year are Fri, Mar 31st, 7-9p and Sun, Apr, 2nd, also from 7-9p. Click here to for more info. If you are going to CCC, be sure to start getting your materials ready now. And order those business cards so you will have them in time!
If you are a creator we’d love to hear from you, please leave a comment or drop us a line.
