I remember going to the inaugural Comikze Expo back in 2011. It was in the basement of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Crowds were everywhere and it was a chaotic experience- as one would expect from a first year show in a major market like LA. I’ve been to every show since then and have enjoyed seeing it come into it’s own. Comikaze Expo launched with a bang and has grown like an angry Hulk ever since. In five years, the convention is fast approaching crowds into the 6 figures and is now taking a huge next step- a rebrand. Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo will now be called Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con. The man himself stated:
“Los Angeles is, to me, the center of the world’s entertainment. It has to have a Comic Con, I felt that a lot of people didn’t know what Comikaze really meant or what it was. And I didn’t think we should hide under a bushel. Los Angeles is, to me, the center of the world’s entertainment. It has to have a Comic Con.” (Source: Hollywood Reporter)
Well at 93 years old, Lee seems busier than ever. LA Comic Con now formally enters into the pantheon of comic cons that span all over the nation. I’m excited to see how this rebranding changes the experience and the future of this show. I’ll be there and hope to see you there!
