For the second year in a row, the Battle for Multicultural Heroes makes it’s return to Comic-Con! After being hosted at cons all over the nations including Chicago, Philly, and WonderCon, this panel always leads to passionate and spirited discussion. I am joined by Youtube comedian Andre Meadows (@BlackNerd), professional cosplayer Linda Le (@VampyBitMe), and Dr Andrea Letamendi (@ArkhamAsylumDoc). We engaged a wide range of topics ranging from superhero stereotypes, cosplay, and race-bending. I was super honored to be a part of such a diverse range of experiences with this awesome panel. We all had a lot of similar pain and confusion growing up as well as we found our center in geek culture. I was also so impressed with the level of questions and comments from the audience- they were sincere and insightful. We were also super grateful for the variety of ethnic creators from Artist Alley who donate their work as prizes! I had someone say this panel was the best they attended all week long- which is such a huge compliment. The Houston Press also listed it #2 in their Top 10 Best Things About SDCC 2014! Thank you all for your support and helping to create awareness of this panel and topic. Without you this would not have been possible. This is our fight together and I’m grateful for each and every one of you. I hope you enjoy this 1 hr discussion and leave comments on your thoughts- hope to see you next year! Mobile click here.
A few things to note:
- Since the conversation moves from panel to audience, the audio levels go up and down. So this is best listened to with good head phones and a quiet space.
- For the first half of the panel, I make references to a bunch of stereotypical images on screen. I think for the most part you can tell who we are talking about.
