I’m super pumped for the 3rd Annual Comikaze Expo in the LA Convention Center this weekend (Nov 1-3). It has really gained momentum in just a few short years- especially with Syfy’s latest show, Fangasm, promoting it. Unfortunately, I can only be there on Saturday the 2nd for a few panels (listed below). I hope to nerd out with you there!
MULTIVERSE, MULTIPLAYER, AND MULTIETHNIC (10:00 AM Room 306AB)
The pop culture explosion through gaming, comics, TV, and film has opened up new opportunities for cultural diversity; however, many obstacles still exists. In this humorous but poignant discussion, diverse geek experts will discuss breaking ethnic stereotypes and what changes need to happen for us to boldly go into the future.
Participants: Tony Kim (@Crazy4ComicCon), Linda Le (Professional cosplayer aka: @VampyBitMe), Andre Meadows (Comedian aka: @BlackNerd), Tamara Brooks (Writer aka: @MisfitsTamara, Founder of MisfitsofSciFi.com), and Crystal Clark (Geek Fashionista aka: @GeekPinata)
SUPER-HEROINES OF POP CULTURE (12:30 PM Room 301B)
We couldn’t imagine our favorite comic book, TV show, or film without our beloved super heroines, however the journey for them has not been easy. Whether it’s cultural barriers or societal sexism, super women have had to fight more than just crime in order to survive. Join various female creators, cosplayers, and writers as they discuss the challenges and obstacles of creating relevant female heroes in today’s male dominated industries.
Participants: Tony Kim (@Crazy4ComicCon), Nikki Griffin (Actress, Writer @Nikki_Griffin), Sarah Rodriguez (Writer @SarahTheRebel), Reena Leone (Writer/cosplayer @ThatReenaGirl), and Megan Gotch (Writer, Fashionista @TheNerdyGirlie)
NERD WARS: THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES (1:30 PM Room 308AB)
Join this battle of the sexes as geek girls square off against nerd boys for universal supremacy. Not only will this be filled with all kinds of fun nerd trivia, but interwoven will be a relevant discussion about various topics in pop culture. What defines a geek girl? Where are our super-heroine movies? What about the lack of minorities in comics, TV, and film? This nerdtastic panel is guaranteed to be crazy, funny, and very poignant.
Participants: Tony Kim (@Crazy4ComicCon), Chris Gore (Comedian and personality @ThatChrisGore), Andre Meadows (Comedian @BlackNerd), Nikki Griffin (Actress, Writer for GEEK Magazine @Nikki_Griffin), Reena Leone (Cosplayer and Writer @ThatReenaGirl), Constantine (Costume designer @NonStopToTokyo)
