My Ohio Comic Con Panels

I’m excited for the next stop on my convention tour around the United States. Starting on Friday is the Ohio Comic Con in Columbus. Previous known as the Mid-Ohio Con, I’m looking forward to not only visiting the city for the first time but meeting some awesome Ohio-an (?) nerds. The Captain himself, William Shatner will be there to send this convention into warp speed. Here is my moderation schedule with some familiar and new panels in the mix- with a surprise or two that I can’t mention just yet.

As an artist, writer, actor, musician or creator, there is nothing more challenging than the development of the creative process. Is art birthed from the spontaneous or is it a result of a carefully crafted rhythm and structure? In this panel, artist Dave Aikins (SpongeBob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer) artist/director Rob Prior (Heavy Metal; Spawn the Impaler) and writer/artist Thom Zahler (Love and Capes) describe how to overcome creative obstacles, how to problem solve, and what are the keys to unleashing creativity. Moderated by Tony Kim (ROOM E161)

Whether it’s cultural barriers or societal sexism, super women have had to fight more than just crime in order to survive. Come join artist Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man; Impulse; Crimson,) The “Pop Culture Professor” Dr. Rebecca Housel and discuss the challenges and obstacles of creating relevant female protagonists in today’s male dominated industries. Not only will this be filled with all kinds of fun nerd trivia, but interwoven will be a relevant discussion about gender in comics and pop culture. What defines a geek girl? Do girls read comics? What about the lack of female creators in comics, TV, and film? This 90 minute panel will be crazy, funny, and very poignant. (ROOM E161)
